Personal accomplishment highlights
Membership/Volunteer/Training
I joined SENG (Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted). I am looking forward to being a part of this community and engaging with others who have the goal of helping gifted individuals and families cope with difficult developmental issues that is often part of the experience of gifted students. I am excited to lend my voice and experience to help others normalize their experience and to realize they are not alone.
Research
I gained so much knowledge through the research for the development of this course. I had to restrain myself from reading and digging more, only because of the limited time within a single semester. However, I plan to do further research. I gained insight, knowledge, and know-how through the research accomplished during this portfolio project.
Design of Discussion Guides & Activities for each selected film
I was able to assimilate and synthesize the research I did for this project into final product that I feel will be helpful to my students. I was able to incorporate my areas of prior knowledge and experience of ELA and Reading into the design of the course. Tailoring the course to fit using films which related to the students it was designed for was challenging and rewarding. I am happy I was able to create the discussion guides and include activities that allow for differentiated student response. The guides are designed with meaningful content with students' interests in mind.
Practicum portfolio
I am amazed out how the portfolio turned out. It was difficult to envision how it would all come together, but it did! I take pride in knowing how much time and effort was spent in creating the portfolio pieces. As I have spent time editing, changing, adding to the project, I have a new appreciation for content creation and research. I believe it has enhanced my skills immensely. I am pleased to have completed this challenging task, and I am excited about the implications of my future contributions to the gifted community as a result.
Summative Assessment
2-Completely Met Goals
1-Partially Met Goals
0-Did Not Meet Goals
Rationale: After sifting through multiple resources, I was able to narrow the research to gifted girls and the social emotional needs of developmental ages of gifted girls. This better informed me of how to go about creating relevant content for the enrichment course.
Rationale: After reading the book chapters sent to me by Dr. Hines, I purchased the entire book entitled, Some of My Best Friends are Books. I also did extensive research about cinematherapy, types of therapy appropriate for lay-persons, and the benefits of guided discussion for my target audience and people in general.
Rationale: After researching how to best go about this, I believe I found a good template and was able to create meaningful, interesting content. I felt this was the most manageable for my first attempt to tackle such an extensive project, I believe I will add to or edit the lessons as I find needed improvements.
Rationale: I was very excited to use my knowledge as a Reading Endorsed educator to incorporate the activities that I have used with Reading & ELA instruction at various grade levels. I was able to adapt activities as needed to fit each film. I had some trouble deciding which activities I wanted to use because many of them could be used with multiple films.
Rationale: I am pleased with the outcome of my portfolio and feel that I did accomplish the goal completely and in some ways exceeded the goals. As I struggle with perfecting things to death, I had a difficult time discerning when I had achieved adequate progress. I feel at times, I over think the tasks and this gets in the way of satisfactory completion. I struggle to consider the time it should take complete tasks and usually spend too much time on small things. I think my unrealistic expectations of myself (to attempt perfection) and my tendency to tunnel focus on minute details often obscure my judgement of how well I did.

- Goal 1: Research social-emotional needs of gifted students.
Rationale: After sifting through multiple resources, I was able to narrow the research to gifted girls and the social emotional needs of developmental ages of gifted girls. This better informed me of how to go about creating relevant content for the enrichment course.
- Goal 2: Research the use of bibliotherapy/cinetherapy
Rationale: After reading the book chapters sent to me by Dr. Hines, I purchased the entire book entitled, Some of My Best Friends are Books. I also did extensive research about cinematherapy, types of therapy appropriate for lay-persons, and the benefits of guided discussion for my target audience and people in general.
- Goal 3: Create Content for Guided Discussions
Rationale: After researching how to best go about this, I believe I found a good template and was able to create meaningful, interesting content. - Goal 4: Combine Film and ELA activities for a meaningful student experience
- Goal 5: Design an Enrichment course
